e-READY BUILDING LIMITED

e-Ready Building provides products and services in support of the telecommunications cabling infrastructure industry and its clients. The primary activities are consulting services, seminars and training which are offered to both the supply- and client-sides of the market.

e-Ready Building is founded on the convergence of a wide range of services under the banner of "telecommunications" and on the delivery of those telecommunications services over a rapidly shrinking range of networked, largely IP-based, applications.

e-Ready Building was established in 2004 and combined the services already provided by The Cabling Partnership with:
a series of software packages (e-Tools);
innovative infrastructure and associated
business models that reflect the predicted
network convergence.


Copper coated aluminium

 There is an increasing trend of counterfeit Category 5 (and above) cables being sold and installed which contain copper coated aluminium (CCA) and steel (CCS) conductors. Mike Gilmore produced the FIA White Paper FIA-IAN-002 that provides the most detailed technical and coomercial review of the impact of this trend.

Remote powering

 Power over Ethernet has spawned a range of increasingly heavy duty remote powering applications up to and including HDBASE-T. The industry is starting to be concerned about potential damage to cables and connectors than may result from such applications running over structured cabling. These concerns are exacerbated by in the installation of so-called "zone cables" and other products (including CCA/CCS products detailed above) which have higher than expected dc resistance. CLC TC 215 WG2 has initiated an activity to produce CLC TR 50174-99-1 covering the planning, installation and operation of cabling for remote powering.


CEN/CLC/ETSI Coordination Group on "Green Data Centres" - as a member of this group, Mike Gilmore has been asked to produce its first two deliverables defining the standardisation landscape in this most important field

ETSI STF439 has the task of producing a series of standards that will define Global KPIs for operational infrastructures of broadband deployment. These KPIs can be applied outside the "teleocmmunications operator" environment and those for data centres anre universally applicable. Mike Gilmore is the leader of ETSI STF439.

Automated infrastructure management (AIM) has become to the subject of a substantial standardisation activity within ISO/IEC JTC1 SC25 WG3. It is expected that this work will be the resposnibility of their Cabling Implementation Task Group led by Mike Gilmore.

The Cabling Partnership provides a wide range of consulting services, both supply-side and the client-side, across all aspects of telecommunications cabling infrastructure provision and operation including:
market and product analysis;
infrastructure design strategies;
installation specification and tender
adjudication;
quality assurance (audit, arbitration and
expert witness services);
project management.

SEMINARS AND TRAINING

The Cabling Partnership delivers a range of "education" services including both seminars and training courses.

Our open-access seminars focus on latest technical- or standards-based developmments in the telecommunications cabling infrastructure market.

Customer-specific training is created "on demand" to address particular aspects of infrastructure implementation including:
design;
installation;
commissioning (inspection and testing);
operation and administration.

The Cabling Partnership has also built an enviable reputation as a "supply-chain" trainer, undertaking the development and/or delivery of specialist training schemes on behalf of cabling product/system suppliers.


All the products and services provided are founded on direct involvement in standardisation of telecommunications (IT) cabling via both the formal standards bodies (such as BSI, CENELEC, ETSI and ISO/IEC) and industry bodies such as the FIA and TIA-B. The open-access Knowledge Base containing articles and presentations (undertaken at third party events) provides additional support.

Standards activity

Mike Gilmore chairs, or provides meeting secretariat services to, the principal UK standards committess involved in telecommunications cabling design and installation. He also holds a number of similar responsibilities at European and international level. Clcik here for a list of standards involvement at at May 2012.

Industry Association activity

Mike Gilmore is also Technical and Standards Director of the UK Fibreoptic Industry Association (FIA) and a director of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Advisory Board (TIA-B).
