The extension of the European Union Construction Products Regulation to communications, control and power cables is the most significant change to cable specifications in many years.

It applies to any cable to be installed in fixed infrastructures within any building or structure independent of the specification, purpose or performance of that cable. As such it has significant impact on manufacturers, suppliers, building owners, consultants, distributors, installers and many others.

CPR requires the certification of cables in relation to their "reaction to fire" performance using a hierarchical EuroClass system (ranging from A to F). The EuroClass designation replaces the vague terms such as "fire retardent", "LSOH", "low smoke" that have been previously used.

e-Ready Building has developed a one-day seminar (download brochure here) covering the topic.

Restrictions of service

Although e-Ready Building provides a wide range of supply-side services - there are restrictions. We cannot represent individual organisations as part of the standards development activity that we undertake. To do do would compromise the impartiality that that has to be maintained when operating as chair/convenor of standards committees or task groups. Our reputation for complete independence is vital in this area.

Confidentiality of service
Non-disclosure agreements represent legal safeguards for both parties - NDA templates are available to suit most circumstances.
